The book was just not pulling me in to read more and felt too random.
Very funny prose--but after a few chapters, the main character's immature arrogance/entitlement and self-pitying got overwhelming, and lost my interest. I know there would likely be some gratifying pay-off to this over the course of the story, but I wasn't willing to trudge through the emotionally tone-deaf teenage boy POV for that long. Like Murakami, the character's voice is interesting and believable, but also like Murakami, the portrayal of women is abysmal because of the narrow-minded vantage point of its narrator. Maybe I'll pick it up again if I find enough patience for his self pitying nonsense to enjoy the humor.
