I think the concept is really interesting but it wasn’t executed very well, i think we didn’t need such similarities between the way the story was written, it meant I was jumping paragraphs when i thought it was a repeated section. I think it could have been more inventive with the repetitions. I think if you like a slow paced book that is more reflective than story driven you’d like this. For me, the end wasn’t even that exciting because I was really toughing out the middle, i didn’t care about the characters.

The main character is also very unlikable, which i’m not against in a book but when the story isn’t engaging as well it creates a sort of resentment for the characters. His attitude to women was pretty intolerable for me personally. I found the semi-love interest to be a tool and a bit of a manic pixie dream girl in that way.

I gave the book 2.5 stars because i really liked the concept and parts of the story did intrigue me but I didn’t empathise with the main character or even find him interesting, I didn’t care what his fate was really and so the book became more of an effort to get though.

read and finished this purely because of the cover

a slow paced read yet a thoughtful exploration of fate (: I’d like to revisit this book at some point

This book is split up into four quarters. Each quarter retells the main character's first two years of college if he had made a different choice. This book is hard for me to rate because unfortunately the first three quarters of the book are repetitive and boring (I guess that's expected since he goes through the same two years of school 3 times). There are only minor changes that occur from his making a different choice (joining a different club), so we get to see the same scenes multiple times. 75% of the book earns 2 stars from me. However, the last quarter of the book is where the most enjoyable and unique part is. I won't say too much because of spoilers but this part earns 4 stars. To average it out, I have to give the book 3 stars. I do think the ending makes up for all the boring nonsense of the first three quarters because the detailed differences between the parallel worlds do come back in the end.

Dropped halfway thru chapter 2. I did not enjoy how repetitive the second go-around in another club was.

I wanted to enjoy this book a lot more but certain parts dragged and, whilst mainly the point, the rest was largely repetitive.

Some parts also just seem to exist only to provide links for the sake of it, which just goes against basic principles.

I think, of the four chapters, I only really enjoyed the second iteration - the characters interacted a lot more and it was a lot more lively.

Overall, the ordering of the parts just felt off and didn’t really result in a satisfying conclusion - something I’ve heard the anime does a lot better.
