I’m currently on the 5th book of the mortal instruments series and I am in love!!! I was always directed towards contemporary books before and didn’t read often, but this book and its series completely turned me around. The characters, relationships, and complexity of the world and events it absolutely amazing!!!

After seing the movie, I needed to determine if a) the book was better and b) if I had been imagining the similarities to Harry Potter. It wasn't and I wasn't. But, because I was accidentally spoiled on something I decided to see this series through. It helps immensely being able to picture JCB as Jace and Valentine as JRM. Also, I think Luke is my favorite character, but only because he seems to be the only one who does not sulk or pout. I will no doubt update this review when I am finished the series, if only to list, one by one, the ripoffs to Potter verse. Like, you know, Mortal Instruments such as the Elder Wand, Resurrection Stone and Cloak of Invisibility. ;)

I do really like this book however it is not one of Cassandra Clare’s best works considering this was her first book. A good read but I wasn’t necessarily intrigued nor wanting more while reading.

This was an interesting take on nephilim and all the other types of beings. I liked all of the characters, including the minor ones...Magnus was a hoot! There were a couple of twists that I wasn't expecting, and one just left me skeeved out. Overall, I just felt like something was missing and I really can't put my finger on what was lacking. I am not sure if I am interested enough to see where this goes by reading the rest of the series.
