We don't learn anything new here. It is nice to reconnect with Diana and Mathew, and their twins. But the story focuses on Marcus and (the insufferable) Phoebe. I was annoyed at her chapters, I was a bit bored with his chapters. I've always found Harkness writing style too academic to be truly enjoyably. But while in the All Souls Trilogy I was engaged with the story, in here there wasn't enough to keep me in awe. Will I read the next book? Yes, cause I am hoping I get some more of what we got in the original trilogy.
Also, while the original trilogy managed to talk about vampires without using too many stereotypes, this one felt like it was borrowing plot points from other novels. It is easy with a New Orleans setting to think about The Vampire Chronicles, but with the Claremont coming to set things straight, I felt like the Vulturi had some involvement.

A welcome addition to the All Souls Trilogy, but it doesn't have  quite the same allure as the first 3.

I’ve been reading these via audiobook, so a change in narrator threw me off a little bit.
I did, however, enjoy getting to read more in depth into Marcus’ life, as well as Phoebe’s journey. It definitely strays from the main trilogy, but doesn’t leave it fully behind

DID NOT FINISH: 45%

This is the book that an author who wanted to write historical fiction about the American Revolution, but was told by their publisher to shut up and write more vampire romance would write. Not that historical fiction about the American Revolution is a bad thing, but we’re talking hours (audiobook) of the American Revolution before Marcus even met Matthew that could have been summed up in 1/4 the time. I stopped at 7 hours (of 15:45) Marcus had just met Matthew and I’m sure it get’s better… but I’m bored and my TBR has masterpieces that call.
