What a fun book! As unlikely as the premise is, the characters more than make up for it. Katie is sweet and naive, yet she's got a backbone of steel and never backs down from a challenge. She's more than a match for Jorlan, whose arrogance and domineering attitude would destroy a weaker heroine. I loved their instant chemistry and their non-stop banter. A light, breezy read, THE STONE PRINCE is a fabulous introduction to Gena Showalter's work. I'll definitely be buying more of her books!
Um... kind of a miss for me. I can't really explain the exact reason why but I just really didn't like either one of the characters. Katie had a bunch of brothers who treated her like one of the guys.. they treated her like any brother would treat a younger sister but they also saved her from her father treating her like a "woman" (making food, cleaning, etc..) So in my opinion she has always had her brothers so I really don't understand her "I am more than a woman. Treat me more than a woman. I can do everything a man can" attitude. And then she would get insecure when she changed a tire in front of Jorlan because it was too manly... She was annoying as hell. She did that the whole freaking book.
And Jorlan was annoying as well.. just not as annoying. He was just being himself so I didn't mind him as much. The story was good if I could ignore Katie. I hated the ending. I don't want to give anything away but I just hated how everything wrapped up.
Yeah so not one of my favorite Gena Showalter books for sure. I'll read the next one because I would have liked this one a lot more if it weren't for Katie so hopefully the next characters are better!!

Gena Showalter has long been one of my favorite authors, ever since I picked up the first book in her Lords series, I have been hooked on anything this women writes.
This book is no exception. The plot is amazing, with twists, turns, old fashioned malevolence, violence with a spatula, booze, sex, and some self sacrifice. It doesn't get anymore perfect. The characters are strong and vibrant, they stay with you after you have finished the story. The sensuality in this story is pretty top notch too, kept me warm through the snow storm this past Saturday ;)
I already have the next book in this series on the way to me. I can't wait to read it.
The book is pretty expensive at the moment since it is out of print, so I didn't post a link, you can prob get the ebook on eharlequin.com or it is due to reprint Jan 2011.
So I'm actually on the fence for this one. There are so many individual elements that I really liked about this story but somehow the whole of it left me just meh. I couldn't even tell you WHY because I've enjoyed this author before, this has all the ingredients for a story I would like including clear and enthusiastic consent. But...*shrug* I'd still probably recommend it though?
Okay for Aayesha.

DNF'd. I really wasn't into the whole 'misogynistic love interest that I need to educate but don't actually because he's so sexy and it would take too much of the plot'. I was just looking for a fun romp and this was not that.
emotional
lighthearted
Good for a debut book. I loved the concept of an alien statute coming to life. But you could tell it didn't have the depth that her later books do.
The Immortal or Atlantis series are better.

"3 out of 5 stars. I had such hopes for this book. *sigh* I mean it was good .... but around chapter 19 or so I was getting sick of Katie, who kept..."

The male lead is so arrogant and chauvinistic I couldn't finish the first chapter.
