是个有年代感的故事，“听从上帝旨意”的瑞典农家两代人的变迁，也是一百多年前的瑞典乡村图景，但不是我喜欢的类型。它太宗教式圣洁、传统式牺牲和童话式悲喜了——年轻农夫耕田时在脑中与过世的父亲和族亲们对话寻求建议；新教派的信徒变卖家产响应神召前往耶路撒冷开始新人生；意图寻短见的年轻妻子听到陌生人神谕般的开导于是有了继续活下去的勇气——过于虔诚过于传统，使我无动于衷。比较喜欢的片段是讲痛苦的部分，譬如英格森看着姐姐一件件拍卖祖产但无能为力，庄子上的老雇工聚在他脚下，仿佛他能给他们一些庇护。结尾几页写前往耶路撒冷的人一路与亲友告别的部分也很有张力。

Första halvan (del 1) var verkligen jättebra tycker jag, men andra halvan var ganska tråkig, tyvärr. Jag förstår att det blev en succé back in the day, men jag vet inte om det håller än.
