Enjoyable, but very obviously a first attempt at a novel and the graphic novel background really shows in the sometimes awkward phrasing. If you love Girl Genius you will enjoy this. I also highly recommend the audiobook version!

Fantastic. I already read and liked the comic book version of this story, but I must say I love real books over comic books any day. It has the same amount of action that was portrayed in the comic and who doesn't love a girl who can fend for herself?

I really, really wanted to like this as much as I like love the comics. The story is the same, and still just as wonderful (more so in some parts, where characters' motivations are explained or we have access to their thoughts), but there are quite a few grammar errors. As much as I hate to be a grammar nazi (it isn't always a big deal), there were a few times when I was pulled out of the story because of my reaction to the way the story was being told.

Now, I would totally recommend this to someone who hasn't read the comics before and isn't as much of a nitpick as I am (read: most everyone). I think this is a great introduction to the Spark universe for those averse to comic/graphic novel format, and is still a great read in it's own right.

I picked this up under the assumption that either the events in the comic would be told from a different perspective or that more of the history would be revealed. I was sadly mistaken on both accounts. This is just a retelling of the comic in the form of a novel. Unfortunately, in this format, the characters lose a lot of dimension and likeability that is shown in the original artwork. So, really, don't waste your time or money on this book. Just read the comic.

Amusing. I kept reading the jagermonster's voices as Siegfried from Get Smart (the original series).

I've been reading the Girl Genius graphic novels since they were first released in printed comic book format. Even though the story is largely redundant to the original, the book fills in a few details. Recommended to staunch GG fans and those who didn't/won't read the graphic novels.

Got 62 pages in and couldn't keep going. Had to create a DNF shelf for this. Tries to be smarter than it is, has an inconsistent protagonist, and a complete lack of tonal awareness.
