Loved the heartbreaking angst of the h's uncertainty in the H's regard for her, but in the end a highly unsatisfactory read. He was beyond cruel and she was beyond stupid. Enough said.

Andreas Nicolaidis meets Hope Evans when he accidentally runs off the road during a snow storm when he swerves to avoid her. She is sweet and innocent and he feels a strong attraction to her. He seduces her that first night in a barn where they waited for the storm to end, then made her his mistress.
Two years later, Hope is thrilled that she and Andreas are celebrating their second anniversary. Andreas, not so thrilled when he realizes that he has stayed with the same woman for two years. He is abrupt and cruel in telling her that he does not celebrate anniversaries and crushes her hopes and dreams of a future with them. While attending his sister's party, Hope is insulted by his sister and catches her in the arms of a man that is not her husband. To protect herself, the evil Elyssa tells Andreas that she saw Hope earlier in the arms if another man. Andreas breaks off their relationship and orders Hope out of the apartment that has been her home for the past two years.
Fast forward some more and Hope finds herself six months pregnant. Because of the upheavals in her life, she dismissed the symptoms and changes on her body. She tells Andreas that she is pregnant and he accuses her of trying to pass off another guys child as his. It really isn't until he tricks his sister in to a confession that he realizes that he wronged Hope and how very badly. in an attempt to make things right, he offers Hope her dream house and marriage, which she promptly turns down. After all the anger and discord that passed between them, Hope is no longer the sweet, accommodating, happy person Andreas knew. She now knows what she wants for her life and her childs' and doesn't believe that Andreas can give it.
Andreas has been with Hope for two years, he was her first lover, knows that she is straightforward and honest to a fault and yet still believes that she was cheating in him at his sister's party, with him there and so many people around to see it? Really? How dumb are you? Then he repeatedly insults her, mistrusts her and treats her like slime, who kicking her out of her home and wants a reconciliation?
Hope, poor Hope. Isn't she too old to allow all this to happen to her? She allows this man to repeatedly treat her like dirt, insult her and takes his evil sister's word over hers. After having her love love thrown back in her face, she learns she is pregnant, does the right thing by telling him only to be even more insulted by this idiot. I also hated the condesending way Andreas kept insisting that Hope was so innocent and impressionable that she needed him to protect her. She is an adult! She doesn't need you to treat her like spun glass or a simple minded person. His alpha tendencies for overreaction were just a bit too strong.
This book was an exercise in frustration. Both main protagonists needed a swift kick in their nether regions! My favorite character was Vanessa, Hope's BFF. She told it like it was and didn't give a good G*d damn! A lady after my own heart. I finished the book and it was a good read, however I just wanted to see a bit more maturity in the characters, especially since they were both in their thirties. At that point, you have a firmer grasp of life and are a tad more secure in who you are...from what I remember of those days.

I love the mistress who doesn't know she's a mistress trope. This one was pretty good. I liked that the heroine was a very up-front, honest person and didn't hide the pregnancy from the hero. I was a bit frustrated with her at times for her lack of pride, but she did finally reach a point where she wasn't taking any more of the H's insulting accusations, otherwise I may have thrown my Kindle against a wall and caused some major damage.
