Had to slow down when reading this one as the writing style is not what I am used to and often had to read between the lines. Felt it was good for perspective taking and learning more about another cultures views

This book is very raw, personal and honest telling of mental illness and dealing with addiction and abuse which I really appreciated. However, the book just felt jumbled and discombobulated to me. And as much as I wanted to sympathize with the narrator, I had a tough time doing just that. Regardless of that it definitely deserves a read, and I'll more than likely give it a second chance.

poetic, haunting & honest

Brutal, brave, disruptive memoir with prose that stuns.

Absolutely beautiful prose, beautiful and heartbreaking story. I re-read many passages to appreciate the complexity and the craft.

a meandering, disjointed memoir that wasn’t easy to read. painful and raw, written in a contrived, angry style that I didn't find enjoyable.

I have GOT to start pre-reading these books before I choose them as my yearly “book club with Grandma” pick

The book is written very differently than what I am used to, but it is a rewarding read. It takes a chapter or two, but once you get into the rhythm and get used to what seems like random topics it starts to come together.

I had originally come across this book because of its length, thinking it would be a quick read. But, the topics and writing style make you slow down and appreciate how the author is writing. Don't let the length fool you, this is a richly written collection of essays.
