So I don’t think this book was better than the first one, I don’t feel like it was worse either. Overall I did again not really like this book, but still kept on reading. I think the only reason I kept on reading was because of Nikolai. I swear he owns my heart and is my my everthing. I had the feeling that Nikolai really caried the book and every time he said something I just smiled. Mal on the other hand is an idiot that I problably will never like. Although I do think he’s the best option for Alina. I a wierd way I had the feeling that nothing really happend in this book, they just spend the whole book inside of a palace and talked..... Jup I geuss that was the plot, or at least that’s what I remember from it.
Mal just gaslights Alina the entire book.
Why she chose him over Nikolai or the Darkling, I couldn't hope to understand.
I liked the fact that Alina had the Darkling on speed dial, I would've liked to see more of those interactions. At this point his only major appearance is at the end of the book just to make the reader think this was a worthwhile read.
The only reason it has three stars is due to Nikolai. He is a great character and a good mood changer plus flying ships and guns.

I was surprised with how little I remember from this book after rereading it. Which is, actually, a great thing since it's like reading it for the first time all over again. I mean I shouldn't be surprised I don't remember much since I read this 10 years ago but apparently I think I have an alien computer brain or something.
Can I just say I love this trilogy. Like, love. Its so well done. I thought it when I read it after it first came out, I think it now, and I'll continue to think it another 10 years from now.
The first book is amazing but this book is stunning. The additional characters rounds out the story in such a beautiful way. ♥️Nikolai♥️ seriously great character development goes on in here.
