The main issue I had with this book was I couldn't identify with any of the characters or the thread of the plot. The character flaws all seemed a bit too clichéd and stereotyped to be credible, and the plot was just too bizarre to draw me in. It's unnecessarily long - there's a lot of information that doesn't really add anything to the plot or the character development. It all got incomprehensibly convoluted, losing momentum about half way through, which was when I almost lost interest completely. As I find it difficult to DNF books I persevered and it did pick up towards the last third, although it did seem that the writer was trying too hard to tie up ends and force the pieces of the puzzle into place. I found the writing really uninspiring and jarring at times, especially the unnecessarily detailed passages about the art world which made me feel like I was reading a newspaper.

This was a long slog. 400 pages in and I finally started to enjoy it. Quite predictable though.

This book was really enjoyable. It was quite a different type of book to the ones I usually read but I wanted to try something different. I try not to judge a book by it's cover but when it's this beautiful it's hard not to.

There is turmoil and questions in this book and the family is on a knife edge. There is a lot going on and I was excited to find out the outcome. I would definitely read more by this author.
