This is such a well orchestrated story.

We follow Sankofa through trials and tribulations regarding her power and the trauma brought with it. This seems to be a tale of character development and acceptance, but turns into something so much more. We get hints of the underlying conspiracy, but seeing and experiencing this through the narrative of young Sankofa, we don't realize or see the full picture until the very end. The closeness to our current state of world is unnerving, rightfully so.

Moments of high stress, moments of comfort and happy tears, moments of righteous indignation.

I love this. The world building, character development, and writing style are great. The power that Sankofa gets from the seed is interesting.

It was a cool little novella to listen to. I really like the Afrofuturism that this author is known for her you think that some of the themes might have gone over my head. I think that it could have been stronger if it was fleshed out a little bit more.

This is my 4th book from Nnedi Okorafor (I read the Binti trilogy), and I loved it maybe more than the previous books from her. Fatima/Sankofa had such a challenging life, and I was so invested that I wish this was not just a novella, but a little longer. Okorafor really knows how to write a story that is engrossing and pulls you in that you want to know more. Such a quick read that for me was totally worth it. I will continue to look forward to whatever Okorafor writes!
