Great story-telling and excellent writing as always. Surreal, and bizarre, the real world blends in with the metaphorical one, as expected from Murakami. One of my favorites from him.

Reading Murakami's earliest books is...interesting. Maybe it's my fault for really only being familiar with his work that considered to be his best, though I haven't read him in a long, long time. Maybe even a decade (!) or so.

His early novels are very...horny. I'm not sure how else to say it. There are interesting things happening in the novel outside of the narrator's intense horniness (which is a bit of a constant in these early novels that I don't remember from his later, more well received books). But, yeah, there's a peculiar mystery that's both absurd and whimsical that leads to a sort of anticlimactic denouement, which does remind me a bit of the Murakami I remember.

It didn't work well for me here. Maybe it's because the novel felt sort of haphazardly thrown together. But I see many of Murakami's obsessions already at play in these first books. Jazz, cigarettes, scotch, unique and somewhat mysterious women, and peculiar mysteries that sort of never emerge the way you expect.

I don't know. The novel is fine but it's also not very noteworthy. These first three books seem kind of like tryouts for his later books.

I'm excited to reread Hardboiled Wonderland next, since I remember that being my favorite.

Это моя самая любимая книга. Очень расслабленный сюжет, но также и загадочный и тревожный. Следующая часть тоже топ
