Not great.
Haven't decided if I will read the remaining books in the series.

This book is another entry in that well explored genre of murdered young women, almost supernaturally evil killers, gore and tortured protagonists, but it's very well done in this instance. Besides competent writing, there is an interesting scientist protagonist and a surprising if somewhat holey plot line. I'm unsure if I'll read further in this series but this was a better than average genre entry. Except for the complete absence of POC.

loved the mystery and the science aspects, but suspension of belief was definitely required for full enjoyment. I also think the ending was too abrupt and didn’t give me the details I was hoping for about the killer, what motivated him, etc. also I found theo cray so annoying

Couldn't put it down! Finished this book in less than 24 hours. A real page-turner. Not going to win prizes for literature, but it sure had me holding my breath. Loved the science aspects. Read it too fast to stop and contemplate any plot holes, if there were any. Highly recommend when you need to pass the time, but not when you need to get things done! Found out afterwards the author is a famous illusionist. Cool!

The science aspect of the novel seemed, at first, to be exciting and refreshing. However, as the novel went on it began to feel like window dressing. (particularly anything to do with anthropology and skeletal analysis -- I know it works like magic for the sake of fiction, but experience with these subjects means I have to shake my head) The character never really grew on me. I was never able to quite get a sense of who he was since he really felt like two different people. And then a third as he became a bit too perfect.

Great plot, except

I liked the main character but a couple of plot twists were just not believable especially the demand of the killer and Theo's responses.
