Bulley is smart and thoughtful. I really enjoyed a handful of these poems, many went over my head. A lot of diversity in style and type of poem.

Quiet is a simply stunning collection, exquisitely written. It explores aspects of Black womanhood in the British context. I was especially interested in its examination of the concept of quietness through a Black feminist lens, the way Bulley interrogates when being quiet is an important way for Black women to guard their inner selves and when it is harming themselves or others. This is sometimes thoughtful, other times forceful, but always accessible and powerful. Highly recommended.
