I picked up this book and the sequel at B&N over the weekend. I was impressed by the mythology and worldbuilding. I do enjoy tales set in a fictitious France as I'm familiar with the culture. I thought the conflict was intriguing and I honestly didn't know how the characters would resolve the problem and that kept me turning pages. She created a unique magic system. I'm excited for the next book.
I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this one. So far, OwlCrate books have been a hit or miss for me, but I really enjoyed reading this re-telling of Les Dames Blanches (which I had never heard of before). The main romance was a little stilted (and very predictable) and if the main love interest wandered off the page into the woods, I wouldn't miss him all that much. What does shine is the friendship between the two main characters and their bond throughout the story. I would definitely read the sequel to this one.
So I tried to read Katheryn Purdue’s other series last year and I ended up not finishing it because I found it boring so I was a little hesitant to read this book. However, I was very intrigued by the synopsis and the cover (THE COVER IS SO PRETTY AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH!) so I had a feeling I was going to enjoy this book...and I did! I really liked the characters and all the relationships in the book. I do wish that the romance was a little more slow burn because it felt kind of quick to me but I loved it regardless! I finished the book in about a day and a half and I couldn’t put it down. I was so invested in the story and I was so excited to see the outcome of the book. I am sad that I have to wait until next year for the sequel because I really want to read it now. I would highly recommend this book to anyone because I thoroughly enjoyed it!!
I don't know why, but early on in this book, I compared it to Serpent & Dove. I kept thinking is this the book that I wanted Serpent & Dove to be? And I think it was!! I really loved this book and the world and the characters. Really looking forward to the next one.
buddy read with the wonderful mina and the The Procrastinators Book Club!
what a book! i'll be honest with you all - i added this to my TBR list for the cover (and a little for the synopsis) but i'm actually really glad i read this! it was interesting and the friendships were really sweet, plus the whole concept of bone magic was quite fascinating to read about. sure, the romance wore on me a bit, and Sabine was the only decent character (god i LOATHED Jules), but all up it was an enjoyable-enough book that i finished it wayyy ahead of schedule (sorry to my BR partners).
also: have you SEEN the cover for the next book?? GORGEOUS.

If you’re looking for a book to get out of a slump and move fast then here ya go. I myself read fairly slow and I still finished in 3 days. The enemies to lovers arc was combined with a soulmate AU and it was honestly something i never knew I wanted so badly. The alternating POV’s make it even better. It was great and i’m highly anticipating the next book as I stalk out my window for the amazon truck.
