What an interesting take on sirens. They only select one man - the love the gods have selected to have a child with and kill. Their job is to ferry the dead into the afterlife. I like that they have a purpose. I don’t really understand why the had of their familia doesn’t know about the under ground bridge - like why is there so much missing knowledge. Also the owl is very confusing - I wish she was more clear when guiding them. I also fail to see how this has never happened before and they don’t know what to do when someone falls in love with someone not chosen by the gods. Very odd. Seems like this is so much missing knowledge. The plot progresses pretty quickly and the pace is fairly even throughout the whole book.  Overall enjoyable just seems like a lot of plot holes.

This book has a vast potential that is never met.
The characters are poorly written, there are too many plot holes that I am not sure will be explained in the following books.

It’s a shame because the story could have been truly interesting. Instead, we can already see where the plot will lead and it’s probably not worth continuing to read.

Do you believe in that thing called "love at first sight"? Well I used to think it's all crap until I saw this book. Well okay, I mean the cover.

I started this one only because of the pretty swoon worthy cover but turns out that inside of this book is as pretty as outside.

Ailesse is destined to kill her one true love in order to become the matron of bone crier's. Bone crier's keep the deads from preying the livings. On the other hand Bastien's one and only goal is to kill Ailesse to avenge his father's death.

Clearly this is doomed love which I totally adore. There are so many things I love about this book.

First of all that cute enimies-to-lover trope. I'm a total sucker for that. And then there comes the amazing friendship between Sabine and Ailesse. I didn’t like Sabine that much at the beginning of the book but she managed to made me fall for her character by the ending
Last but not the list the PLOT. It was so amazingly written ❤

And yet I think this is too long. It could be more fast. I found myself skipping a lot of pages.
I would have loved this book even more if it was a stand alone.

Aside from this facts,I'm pretty sure I'm gonna read the next one. (I've gotta feeling that this one is going to be Sabine's book. And I'm already shipping Sabine and Prince Cas with my whole heart)

So compulsively readable I basically finished it in a day. Stellar worldbuilding and great characters. Already ordered the second book!

Not super impressed. Most of the characters ranged from meh to fine, and I just felt a lack of chemistry between characters that is vital for this kind of plot. I liked Sabine the best out of the three pov’s, mostly because she was interesting and had some antihero vibes. Bastian almost had a lack of personality for me, I dunno. I don’t feel like I know him at all. Wanting revenge is not enough to create a character. Ailesse was fine, but again, I wanted more. Especially between Bastian and Ailesse. If you expect me as a reader to be invested in a relationship, you gotta make them have a relationship worth caring about. The story literally skipped over most of their bonding time, so I don’t even understand why they’re in love. Jules was a jerk the whole time, so no feelings there.

The premise was interesting enough to keep me reading, but without the chemistry I needed between Ailesse and Bastian, it all kind of fell flat.
I’m really disappointed with the ending. It was all over the freakin place, to a point where I didn’t even know what was going on. It felt rushed, confusing, and like the author didn’t really know the direction she was going anymore.

Saving graces:
-Marcel, who I would die for. Would absolutely read a book completely about him.
-The cover, because it’s STUNNING.
