look, was this anything special? no. but did it feel like watching a cw show where nothing makes any real sense and the acting is terrible, and yet it’s still weirdly enjoyable? yeah! if you go into this with no thoughts, head empty (or just prefer “easy” fantasy like i do), you’ll probably like this, just don’t expect this to be some epic, world-changing book.

i’ve been wondering when YA will feel too young for me , and this was it. not a bad book necessarily , just not for me.
Short story: I did not enjoy this. It got booooring. And it's all very confusing towards the end too. It was also trying too hard to set french kinda vibes with french names for characters and french words scattered randomly like the author kept on forgetting to include some fReNcH. The french was there for seemingly no reason but for extra flair.
I don't even know what the plot is anymore. First it was saving Ailesse from Bastien and then it was stopping Odiva from doing something bad and then it was making sure the ghosts that were supposed to cross the bridge to hell don't drain the life out of the villagers and then it was getting another bone flute and then it was stopping Odiva again and throughout this whole chaos we had two weird gods standing around being weird, making no sense and doing nothing. Wow, that was a mouthful.
If the authors intent was to make me confused, then congrats because I am thoroughly confused and disappointed. I was waiting a long time to read this.
Also enemies to lovers? Nope. Not really.
