the focus and lengthy discussion of HSP as a legitimate label within neurodivergence turned me off from continuing

I was really excited to read this book. I suspect I have some neurodivergent tendencies, though not to the point that I've looked into being tested for ADHD or anything. My older son has been diagnosed as ADHD and I do wonder, especially after reading this book, whether I might also fit on that spectrum even though our symptoms/indicators are different.

I wanted this book to go into greater detail on how to manage some of these issues, especially things like executive dysfunction, but it didn't do that. Mainly it stressed the importance of being open to and accepting of difference in yourself and others. So it was interesting and made good points, but I didn't think it was particularly helpful to me. Your mileage may vary.

It’s definitely informative, but it drags in a lot of places. I also wish she had interviewed more neurodivergent women with differing levels of “success”. If I remember correctly, almost all the women she interviewed were involved in major breakthrough startups, companies, and organizations that are doing great things in the neurodivergent community. And then she went on to use their studies to support her book. Which, y’know, is great. But it would have also been great to hear from everyday women who haven’t exactly found their niche careers, and how being late diagnosed has caused a lot of issues in their lives. Considering so many women do struggle with this, I wish this had been included and would have been a much needed addition to her overall message.

Dear Divergent Mind,
You are yet another great example of how friend's suggestions can expand my mind and my world. I would have never had a book like you cross my path without being suggested by someone I knew. I have suggested you to a few people lately because you are such a strong book to expand my horizons and my knowledge of the world and the human brain. I learned a lot from you, and am excited to take that knowledge into my world.

Great intro to the world of neurodiversity with a special emphasis on women's experiences. great for therapists, patients, and the general public.
