I was given this book for Christmas several years ago, but I had a hard time getting into it until recently. Partly this is due to the fact that the main female character starts off as a very shallow individual. However, I think this only helps to preface the immense personal transformation her character undergoes throughout the novel. Although not as well done as some of the author's earlier books in that regard, I think now that I'm more familiar with that period of English history it made the story more enjoyable to me. At first I was frustrated that there was no real resolution to the story of the bracelet, but apparently this is simply the first book in a series, so I look forward to following the trail of this unusual piece of jewelry.

I liked this book. It was a cute read. I can't wait to read the next one in the series.

I really enjoyed this book. It's basically a Work and the Glory version of Downton Abbey for fourteen year old girls. I really liked the characters and the plot kept me reading. I also liked the messages of hope and forgiveness. There were quite a few times when the author info dumped on the reader and it also was not the most realistic of plots, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I liked it enough to keep it in our library for when our daughters are in their early teens.

Savannah, Georgia, 1858. Lead up to Civil War period. Rather melodramatic and such simplistic relationships. Though perhaps that was the superficial kind of relationship couples frequently had at those times. A few good twists to the plot, but I sure wouldn't look to listen to any more that may follow.
