I really like the voice/pov of this book and how it feels like the main character is just sitting telling me a story about her life
This book needed more proofreading. There were quite a few words missing on sentences, and it took me out of the story. I had to reread the sentence sometimes to make sense of it.
The main character, Amare, is so rude that I don't know how anyone fell in love with her. There was no chemistry between her and the love interests, especially because most of the time Amare was just rude to Finn. The love triangle seems just thrown in there to have a love triangle. Usually, when I read books, I can feel the connections between the characters, but with this one, I felt nothing. Not sure if I'm going to continue the series. This book took me a while to get through.

This was a great start to a series (trilogy?). I'm not sure if it was intentional, but as I was reading the story, I kept thinking Vampire diaries meets Lore and Little Mermaid, lol! I loved the imaginative world of the Sunken City, and okay, so the physics was totally iffy, but it was a fun place to imagine exploring. The ending was a little bit predictable, but the whole story was a lot of fun, so I didn't mind these things. This is both a series that you will HAVE to read in order and one that doesn't really resolve much so you have to continue reading. I suppose you could call this the story of how Amare figures out who she is and how she comes into her powers and it sets it up very well for the next book. Regardless, for a book that I couldn't find in my library (it appears to only be on Amazon), I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it and I definitely want to continue with the series.
I received an advance review copy from the author and NetGalley for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

"But the truth is this - I am so angry. All the time. I'm filled with a deep, black rage, and I don't even know why."
This book had been on my TBR list since I'd heard about it and I was thrilled at the opportunity to finally get a chance to read it. I loved the premise and thought that the setting and history was so unique! The differences between the above world and the Sunken City were night and day and it was interesting to read Amare's reactions as she experienced these new things. The poor girl though can't catch a break and you can definitely tell that there are some more sinister cards at play for the future.
This was a really solid 4 star read and I can't wait to read the second book!

It could be the fact that I am binging TVD right not or maybe it isn't but these boys are totally giving Damon and Stefan vibes and I've always been team Damon. I had the pleasure of listening to the audio for this one and it was such a fun story. I cannot wait for book two.
Thank you Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for the ALC!

I definitely enjoyed the word building, though some of the writing in the beginning had me confused...
