I enjoyed this, especially the non-linear way the story was told, mixing different moments from different times in the authors life without being confusing. The medium of graphic novel was used very, very well. Though i have no problem with verbose writing and I enjoy literary references there were moments where it was a touch too much for me, especially as someone not super familiar with usamerican-centric literature references from that time. Another person i know couldn't connect to it at all because they don't read a lot, so i can see that. Would like to reread it sometime.
this has been on my tbr for a long time. i had read excerpts from it for a lesbian literature class and finally read the whole book for a comics and police class. i found it a little boring but not in a bad way. i liked that each of the seven chapters built on each other. i always find graphic novels just beautiful - like how the fuck can people be so artistic.
I’m not sure why it’s taken me so long to read this as I feel as though Alison Bechdel could’ve personally addressed this to me. I do believe that some things find you when you’re ready for them or need them. I’m not sure there’s any version of me that’ll truly be ready to understand so much of what I relate to in this novel but I didn’t realise how much I needed to not feel alone and for 240 pages, I wasn’t.

This was a new genre for me and I think it was executed very well but it’s not my thing. But it’s nice to have a soundtrack to revisit the story.
