I really tried to enjoy this book, but the characters just annoyed me so much. Such a shame!

This book had so much potential but just failed at every turn for me. Setting up the Fake dating and chemistry with Trudy? Just a red herring that barely lasted a couple of chapters. I spent the whole book hoping she’d end up with Trudy. The main character was mostly insufferable and i just kept hoping there was more to her and it just wasn’t. The whole side plot with Trevor was useless and didn’t even pay off in any meaningful way. I just wish this book was better than it was, but it just never managed to reach its potential.

It took me a few chapters to get into this book, as the writing felt clumsy at first, but then it felt natural. It was exactly what I expected it to be, light-hearted, funny, full of second-hand embarrassment, and at times a bit more serious. I certainly enjoyed it.

I have read several books by Archer (it doesn't appear I marked them on Goodreads though) and typically find her books enjoyable. I purchased this one on kindle when it first came out, and then let it sit there waiting to be read. Finally I give in and it was an okay read but not a favorite Archer book. I really enjoyed the characters and had a couple of laugh out loud moments. I just think it was a bit overkill. It was just too much of a good thing. Their dialogue at first was funny and I enjoyed it but by the end of the book I was kind of over it. I also struggled with a few things that occurred in the book. The disagreement near the end may have been a deal breaker for me. I just didn't like how that entire situation went down in the book. These are of course personal preferences, and I am still a huge fan of Archer's books. I purchased another book and it too is waiting to be read on my kindle. This one for me was just 3 stars though.

Lauren and Rachel have been friends for what seems like forever. Rachel is straight so of course, Lauren has pining away for her for eleven years. Even though Lauren is quite the player, her heart belongs to Rachel. Rachel is single, her husband dying in a freak accident while the three of them were out hiking together. Rachel cops to wondering why Lauren never made a play for her and decides she is curious, but Lauren is afraid to ruin a friendship in the attempt at taking it to the next level.
The best part of this novel is the dialogue between Rachel and Lauren. It is witty, sharp and proof positive that these two women are perfect for each other. I liked how each character had characteristics that set them apart enough to really wonder if they could be compatible in a romantic setting.
My only problem with it was that is seems far fetched that over 11 years, Rachel never said anything to Lauren about her bi curiosity, but suddenly becomes confident that she wants Lauren. That just seemed a little off to me.
As a whole, it is a great read. Lauren's assistant is an entertaining character all on her own and Rachel's son and his relationship with Lauren is precious. I don't understand the "bad" reviews, but to each her own.

I'm cruising through Amazon looking for funny. Looking for easy. Looking for a HEA. When I stumbled upon this recently released gem. If you are in the mood for rom-com where both characters are adorably quirky, I'd recommend this read.
It is sweet and any storyline tension are soon made to easy sailing. The dialogue is wonderfully snappy and funny from all the main and supporting characters. It's like watching a perfect comedy of errors to have one you think you can't have be the one for you. Lauren and Rachel were completely relatable in their story. It's difficult to move from best friends to lovers. They trip a bit getting there, but in the end the story leaves you with a warm HEA.
