Finished it last night. I liked it, but the book felt a bit flat, given what happens in the book, there is just not much emotion. Maybe it has something to do with how accepted those things are in India. But I also didn't feel the emotion, when according to the words there should have been emotion. It was a bit dead to me.

Great story. Heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. Heartbreaking because of it's raw truth about reality of life for most of the population in India - extreme poverty, child labor and slavery, prostitution, hunger, mental and physical abuse, disease. And heartwarming, because despite all that, there is still kindness and a sense of community

I read half of this in paperback and listened to the rest on audio. One word about audio book - I think it would have been so much better if the narrator wasn't an American trying his best to do an Indian accent. this was a great opportunity to diversify narrators and actually get an Indian to read this story, but it was missed.

Great series of vignettes about a young boy growing up in poverty in India, woven together through a frame story of him winning "Who Wants to Win a Billion?". Wonderfully told story that is at times tragic and at times comic. The movie "Slumdog Millionaire" was based off of this (but somewhat changed).

Well this was a really unique read.
Having not watched Slumdog Millionaire, which is based on this book, so everything was new to me.

I listen to the audijbtand it was very immersive, told from the POV of our MC on the show to win a billion rupees.

Each question is preceded by some life event with a full cast narration that explains how he came to know the answer.

I chose this to fulfill the letter Q in a reading challenge and I'm really glad I did.

Rave, rave, rave!

I picked up this book almost immediately after seeing Slumdog Millionaire, which is still one of my favorite movies of all time. Unfortunately, I wasn't as taken with Q & A as I was with the movie.

For starters, the main character, Ram, is not as likable as the movie's protagonist. He isn't necessarily a bad guy, but he's just a little flat. Also there were sections of this book that I just did not really care about.

That said, I loved the section where Ram's friend was just speaking gibberish. By the end of the section, I was able to decipher the language and started reading him as naturally as the rest of the book.

Very cool! I'm glad I saw the movie before I read the book, because it gave some context, but I think the author does a better job in the book of weaving together the story. The many parts of the book is not the same as the movie, in major ways. I don't want to give it away, but I was quite impressed with this book, and the story-telling ability! highly recommend this book!
