An emotional read but the sweetest slow burn romance.

I thought so many of the characters in this book were great especially Mia and Max.
And I loved how the romance between them both wasn’t instant. Mia having been on the run from her abusive husband is frail, scared and underweight with a lot of trauma on her shoulders. Max is grouchy, straight to the point, big ol’ brute and fears he’ll be left again. It was an emotional and heart warming rollercoaster with their relationship but I’m so pleased they got their happily ever after and Mia got some small justice for what she had been through.

And it was lovely to see Max’s friends and family take Mia under their wing and love her just as much as what Max did.

This is only 3 stars for me.
This book was really moving and emotional for me. My heart broke so many times along Mia's journey, but in the end she still survived, stronger than ever. Even with all of the emotional scars, I recognize she's gone a long way from where she began.
However, I found the changes to be a bit abrupt. Mia was a victim of domestic abuse, and then NO ONE realizes what's happening. She's shivering with hypothermia and no one does anything about it.
Anyways, it was kind of unrealistic; she gets hired without credentials, and does stuff that should take WAY longer. Also, Yaz was kind of like, way too yea-well-let-me-just-chill-and-im-totally-not-doing-anything-wrong-just-doing-yoga-at-work. Max was too similar to Nate for me... but overall it was emotional, so the 3 star rating.
