I’m a fan of Molly Ostertag’s other works like the Witch Boy series, and “Girl From the Sea” doesn’t disappoint. I always love taking a break from reading “traditional” novels by indulging in a graphic novel once in a while. Now, I don’t think I’m necessarily a “good” graphic novel reader, because I always read them SO fast. But I still found myself pausing often to just admire the artwork during this read. Ostertag’s style and the bright colors bring the story and the characters to life and are just a treat to look at. I also loved seeing a bit of the behind-the-scenes work at the end of the book, so don’t close it after the last panel! The story itself is pretty straightforward — I was able to predict a good chunk of the plot, but that didn’t take away from the experience for me. It’s more about how the illustrations make you feel while you’re reading than just what you’re reading. I saw myself in the main character and the side characters at different points in the story, and being able to see body language and setting alongside the text certainly helped with that. All in all, I’d wholeheartedly recommend this to graphic novel veterans and folks who are looking to see what a graphic novel can offer. Head over to your local comic book shop and check it out!

it has a charm to it that makes me know why it is so highly-rated, but unfortunately everything (plot, romance, character work) was a bit too rushed and shallow for me.

Thank you to the publisher for gifting me a finished copy!

Cute! I loved the art, the plot, the characters, everything. Some parts were a bit rushed but overall I really liked it. Great if you're looking for something easy to read but still want a bit of character development and plot.
