An enemies to lovers book set in competing bookstores?! Sign me up! This book caught my attention right away and I knew I just had to read it. Can we just talk about the pretty cover though; so cute! Last Chance Books is such a captivating, light-hearted post-highschool coming of age novel about second chances and changes in life.

Madeline loves her family’s indie bookstore, Books & Moore. She planned on inheriting it after her college but her plans are disrupted by the fancy bookstore across the street, Prologue. When she finds out that Jesper, the cute guy who visits a lot, is actually the son of Prologue’s owner, she’s furious. Madeline is determined to destroy the competition.

One of my favorite parts of this book has to be the prank war. I just found it so funny and amusing, at least until before Jesper gets hurt. But the characters are what really made the book for me. Madeline is so determined and creative with the bookstore and it was truly inspiring. At random points in the story she would make a comment about her body and it felt detached from the main story. It wasn’t wrong and I commend the author for trying to inset it but it didn’t really work with the story. Jesper is so cute and sweet! I would have liked to know where his love for fashion came from though. This also felt random and I think it would be more interesting if there was a backstory.

The romance was just so awkward. They had better chemistry when they were fighting than when they were kissing.

Dnf after like...The first chapter. I was so excited based on the synopsis.... and i was let down so bad.

Pls miss me with the “ people who say they love reading but don’t ~really~” is this 2012? Are we still doing the “ im better cus i read” thing? No ty.
Also i hate miscommunication tropes or idk what you would call this. Like just TALK you’re grown. Ugh. Anyway.
Sadly, and frustratingly, it’s a no from me.
