Marcelo and Lina

So good! I adore Veronica Lancet and her morally dark heroes.
Marcello has always been drawn to Lina and when the opportunity arises to marry her, he selfishly takes it. They have a history that she knows nothing about, and if she finds out it will surely end them.

If you love obsessed, corrupt and broken heroes and the women who love them, who are strong for them - then you’ll love this series.

Check the triggers, though, because this series is dark.

Though I've read alot of crazy books with broken men, I haven't read about anyone quite like Marcello. He truly is a broken man. It doesn't bother me because I'm drawn to the emotional part of it. The decision to include both points of view for this story was wise because it allows you to fully understand the character traits and the overarching plot.
It's enjoyable to watch Marcello and Catalina change, and the story is well worth reading. I have nothing negative to say about Catalina. She isn’t striking or formidable, but it's also not insignificant. Reading about these characters together is amazing.

This book is good, but it's way too dark. I don't often come across books with this many engaging elements. This book is fuelled by 2 different timelines filling in information drom both past and present. It is truly miraculous that Marcello is so "normal" given his "upbringing" and parents. The rape of Lina, as narrated by Marcello, is the darkest scene in the book. The way his father was. I truly need some time to process it. However, I really liked the parts in the book where Lina and Marcello were together; they learned everything from each other and grew closer over time.

Thou not my fav in the series. I love it no less.

The trigger warnings included at the beginning of this book are worth mentioning first.

“animal abuse, attempted rape, blood (gore), child abuse, death, derogatory terms, domestic abuse, guns, extreme graphic violence, graphic sexual situations, incestuous situations, kidnapping, miscarriage, murder, self-harm, suicide, descriptive rape, uncomfortable religious situations, extreme depictions torture.”

The two I was most worried about were the animal abuse & child abuse. I found that both situations were written about as best as you could without going into details. The author handled this well & I personally was able to finish this story because I enjoyed the plot not just to finish a book to finish it.

The rape flashbacks were also handled well. I’ve read books that were more descriptive in those scenarios so I don’t think it will trigger anyone who can handle the minimum amount of details.

I enjoy dark themed books and wasn’t let down at all. If you can get past the triggers or the religious aspect, I recommend reading this book.

I’m already wanting to read the third book!

Plot twist ruined it for me idc about anything way too much trauma that could’ve been written off If I was her editor I would have suggested she replaced the plot twist or just write it off

Catalina and Marcello both have some traumatic pasts.

Their connection, the steamy chemistry is off the charts.

But Marcello's secrets could end all of that.

.......
Spoiler I saw the plot twist coming so early on, too many hints led up to it.

Marcello has a lot on his plate with his new role and trying to protect Lina.

The suspense and angst kept my attention in this book. Well written, this author was new to me and I will be reading more from her!
