what started as a very intriguing plot became somewhat boring & repetitive the farther it went on. I’m surely going to continue the series, but this first installment felt overworked, like the author was trying to reach a word count.

This sure is…an isekai light novel.

I don’t know, maybe I’ve just read too much of the genre at this point. This was originally published in 2012 (and had previously been a web novel) so perhaps the landscape of isekai has just progressed and mutated so much since then that Overlord no longer brings anything fresh to the table.

I wanted this to be good. I love isekai, so I had high expectations going in. Overlord provides weak plot, agonizingly slow pacing and flat characters. Most importantly, an anime fandub could easily provide a better translation.
