Fighting Destiny is the book 1 from Amelia Hutchins
I am not normally a paranormal reader, but with this book it has opened my eyes to the genre and have found the genre can be very HOT!
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this book!
I was honored to be able to read this book as a Beta Reader.
Steamy, Hot, great writing and great characters. I was hooked from the beginning and the suspense was nicely done. Keeps you on the edge..
I can't wait to find out what happens next in the book, leaves you wanting more.

Not great but just engaging enough to finish reading - mindless fantasy romance
I can't decide between 2.5 stars and 3 stars
I could maybe like this series if the writing wasn't so bad. And I really feel like I'm not very picky... I've sat through a lot of really poorly edited books. But this book felt like riding a wave writing-wise, plot-wise, and character-wise. It was not consistent. Some parts were really good, some parts were really weird (like the timing didn't add up or things just didn't really make any sense) and some parts had me thrust out of the book and back into reality with how eye-rolling they were (Syn, get over yourself, you're 21.)
Honestly, reading this book made me mad, lol. I like some of the characters enough that I want to keep going, and I think some parts of the story would be really interesting and fun to see unravel. But there's so much crap in-between all of that that really makes it hard to push through.
There are parts of the book that don't really add a lot to the overarching plot, as if the scene's whole purpose (which was set up to be cool and elaborate) is actually just an excuse for the main characters to fight off how much they want to bone each other. And I'm not even against that! But at least make it, I don't know, realistic? It was a whiplash of "I hate you" then "ugh but I'm so attracted to you" then "I hate your kind!" then "but dang why am I so into you?"
And then, on the other hand, some parts of the book would've been sooo awesome to see more drawn out.
Sitting with this book just makes me more and more mad lol. It could've been so great.
Not going to continue the series, but I'd love to read a summary online on the rest of the books, because my interest was piqued just enough to want to know the answer to some questions, lol

Spoiler
*The Wild Hunt* ooh what's that?? Oh she has to stay away from him as a game? Wow, interesting! Oh wait she gets caught like a page into the game starting, wtf. Well that was anticlimactic af.Sitting with this book just makes me more and more mad lol. It could've been so great.

The storyline is strong, the romance aspect ironically let's it down. Brutish dominant male perspective with weird sexually aggressive intamacy scenes that are marred with physical inaccuracies (hello cervix?). Kept reading as the actual story is quite good and will definitely be continuing to read the rest of the series. Very hopeful that the writing matures.
honestly a pretty good book!
massively erotic lol i’m vibing with that bit although for some reason it just didn’t hit as different as those scenes in other books do i’m not sure why lol
honestly a pretty good storyline although it’s really confusing at times and there’s so many characters with similar names i got sooo confused lol
omg don’t get me started on the fae-fucking i hate it i hate it it’s literally rape and everytime it’s mentioned i want to cry :((
the relationship between syn and ryder really confuses me bc like are they mates? are they in love? are they in lust? idk it’s never actually cleared up lol although i guess that’s probably a part of the whole thing lmao
i ABSOLUETLY ADORED reading ryders point of view!! i love it when books give little insights into how the love interest is feeling i just find it so cute!!!
although one thing i hope for more of in the next book is fluff between syn and ryder because there’s obvs a lot of sexual tension and they care for each other but i want more scenes like when syn was hurt and ryder just held her and whispered sweet nothings

Meh. The writing here was fine. But I simply did not like the book. Mostly, I did not like the love interest. Yes, I understand the idea of dark romance and enemies to lovers, etc. Here's the thing, though: even in dark enemies-to-lovers romances, the reader needs to feel that no matter how dark and dangerous the male lead may be, the heroine is ultimately safe from him. I never got that sense here. Plus, there has to come a point in the book in which the male lead goes from enemy to lover and redeems his previous actions. I never reached that point in this book. They went from not having sex to having sex, but not to lovers. Even at 85%, he was still doing things I could not forgive him for. And at 99%, the author was still submitting the heroine to things I could not forgive her (the author) for.
What's more, the whole book skimms over the fact that the fae are rapists—all of them. The author plays loose and fast with this fact, but it's an unavoidable truth of the species as written. And, given the coercive contract and fae ability to subsume someone's free will, I never felt the heroine had the autonomy to choose to engage in most of the acts she did. I understand dub-con and non-con stories. I do. I even enjoy them on occasion. But it's a difficult sell, and a book that doesn't manage to walk the thin line of a hero who is willing to engage in non-con acts while still being redeemable compromises itself fully. This was exacerbated by how willing he was to threaten the use of further rape (while pretending it's something else) but to do so when it is literally her greatest fear in life, based on extreme past trauma.
Sure, I'm interested in the mysteries. But I'm not willing to read another however many pages of story in which the author ignores that the very characters we're supposed to engage with are remorseless (and probably frequent) rapists. Let me be clear before someone comes at me with, 'Don't read dark romance then' or some such. It's the fact that the author is writing certain world and character traits while simultaneously pretending she isn't and expecting the reader to do the same that is at issue, not the dark elements themselves. I will not be continuing the series.

I feel like the author couldn’t decide if she wanted pure smut or story, so she tried both and failed. It was not good 😅
Fighting destiny
I’m not sure about this book. I really wanted to like it by the synopsis but there were so many off putting parts when reading it.

I think there’s a plot, and it would probably be a good one if we could concentrate on it for more than five minutes without reverting to sex. My sister loves the series, so I will keep trying, but so far, it’s not for me.
