Enough with angsty hysterical Russians with brain fever! I’m afraid I didn’t get as much out of this book as I expected. It is extremely wordy and takes five pages to say what could be said in two. Many of the characters actions are motivated by emotions or beliefs I do not understand or empathise with, despite the author explaining them in excruciating detail.
There were parts of the book that rollicked along and I enjoyed these parts. I also enjoyed the murder mystery and thd courthouse drama aspects.
I feel like I have conquered a mountain by reading this book but I do not understand why it is considered one of the top ten novels of all time by educated people.

Best book ever, makes you question yourself and everyone else around you. The characters are insanely complex and diverse and the story is utterly beautiful and heart-shattering.
