I thought about dnf this book because it didn't really pick up until 50% of the way through. The end was speedy but I still wasn't enthralled. It didn't give me true horror vibes.

I really enjoyed this book. While you may get some added enjoyment from having read the Fall of the House of Usher, this book still works incredibly well on its own. Creepy and damp, and dripping with atmosphere, I found this book and its explanations to be a natural way to expand on the original tale. A good, spooky afternoon read that doesn't take too long or overstay its welcome.

A gloriously creepy, gothic tale with fabulous atmosphere and a side of dark humour…loved it!

Interesting concept but it felt like the pacing was really strange, it took a long time to get going and grab my attention and then finished up in about 10 pages. I’m also not sure how I feel about a fungus being behind the human behaviour in the story, again, interesting idea but for me one of my favorite parts of the original house of usher and the part that scared my was that the problem was human (in some shape or form)

a very solid 4.5/5 that i basically read in one sitting!! there are so many well written passages that literally sent a chill down my spine. i’m so pleasantly surprised with how the elements of the plot all came together so nicely in such a short novel

(also. nonbinary protagonist.
