Greek retelling are getting very over saturated. I personally wouldn’t say this is the worst one I have read, but simultaneously I don’t think it gives anything particularly new or interesting about the myth it borrows from. I could have switched out the names of the players and gotten any other story of similar worth and I’d judge it less harshly for it. Retelling need to say something interesting in my opinion, rather than pay lip service to their source material.

I LOVE the voice and tone that Hades and Persephone have been written with.I appreciate strong "for the greater good" reasoning, and Katee Robert didn't over or under play it while modernizing gods. I like the clever nods to the origins to tell the overall story and her own take on the tale. I found it to be the right balance of self awareness, self flagellation, and decisive action/reaction. She managed to wrap my heart up right along with them.
Oh, and the kink was delicious. I enjoyed the level of spice and they are still playing rent free in my head days later.

This was a good and quick read. It was more lighthearted than I was expecting and I really enjoyed it. The characters had good depth and while they did fall for each other rather quickly they had good chemistry. It was really nice to see them equally as protective of the other.
Having said all that it was mostly spice, enthusiastic consenting spicy moments including a bit of voyeurism.
The ending was really good with how things worked out in the plot.

the only reasons this isn’t 5 stars for me is 1) the mythology is completely inaccurate and 2) the “gods” are just legacy titles with absolutely nothing differentiating them from any other humans. other than that, it’s delightful—very hot, a little funny, kinda suspenseful. i love hades so much.
there’s not a lot of erotic scenes but there’s a solid amount and it’s all pretty captivating. 4.25/5 🌶️

This novel isn't going to win any awards, but it's very readable. I wasn't a fan of the writing style or the world building (or lack thereof) but I liked the characters, the romance, and the story.
This is a retelling of the Hades and Persephone myth, set in a modern Olympus. The city is separated into two parts by the river Styx and ruled by the Thirteen (the major Gods, some are 'legacy titles' and some are not, this was never fully explained). There was zero reason for this to be a modern retelling. It could just as easily have been told in the ancient past. There was no need for cell phones, cars, or social media. If those things were removed, the story would have stood just as well, if not better, for it. It's difficult to leave Olympus, but no one ever says why. There's some kind of barrier, but this isn't elaborated either. Demeter is in charge of "the supply lines", but this isn't described or fleshed out in any fashion that makes sense. Zeus is in charge but does... what, exactly? This book really could have stood for some world building. As it is, so little is explained that it removes you from the story.
Hades and Persephone are likeable characters despite the story's flaws, and they support and trust each other in a ridiculously healthy way, with constant consent. Is it realistic? No, but it's great to see the representation anyway.
This was a light, easy, enjoyable read, and I will absolutely read more to discover other characters and (hopefully) learn more about the world of Olympus.
