The Winter King is my new Book Boyfriend. I'd love to read a whole series about him, before he became all wise.

I really wanted her to see her father and asks him questions about her lineage! Is she going to be immortal or not

“Who is to say, in the end, that the three guardians of Russia are not a witch, a frost-demon, and a chaos-spirit? I find it fitting.”
Easily my favorite book of the Winternight trilogy (and quite possibly my favorite read of 2022), the best way I can think to describe this is akin to the feeling of watching a Studio Ghibli movie: full of wonder, magic, and truly heartfelt character journeys that even in moments of danger lent a charming and cozy undertone to the story.
The chyerti (Russian folklore spirits) who were always my favorite part of the first two books really get to shine in this final installment. My personal favorite was a sassy mushroom-spirit, but we also see the famous Baba Yaga make an appearance. And chyerti that were previously portrayed as black-and-white villains get more depth and development, and a chance to prove their own heroic potential.
“There are no monsters in the world, and no saints. Only infinite shades woven into the same tapestry, light and dark. One man’s monster is another man’s beloved. The wise know that.”
The story was still packed with action and adventure, but balanced by touching moments of reconciliation and powerful discoveries of inner strength that infused the whole story with heart. The ending was bittersweet and triumphant in a way that just felt so satisfying for every character's journey. Vasya has solidified herself as one of my favorite protagonists of all time.
“I have plucked snowdrops at Midwinter, died at my own choosing, and wept for a nightingale. Now I am beyond prophecy.”
In my opinion, the series could not have had a more perfect conclusion. I'll be recommending the Winternight trilogy to any lover of folklore fantasy, as it perfectly captures the spirit of the genre.

Had 100 pages left but couldn't finish the series. Some series just don't work out in the end.

Fantastic. I feel like I need to sit with it for a couple of days.
