I'm finding it hard to give this a rating, as I'd seen the film adaptation first and actually quite enjoy it. Now having read the book, I find them to be quite different in some respects - almost to the degree that I don't feel capable of judging the book on its own merits. I feel like the tone was more somber, and the overall message was more about a son trying to reckon with the man his father was - and was not. I might have to say I prefer the movie...
