I know it is cheesy and problematic
but it still holds a nostalgic factor for me

I didn't expect to like this book, but it was absolutely adorable.
Andd we have a winner!!!!!!
This was a great romance where the mean girl finds herself having to face the consequences of her past decisions when she's back in her hometown out of desperation. The prejudices of the people in her past, and empathy and growth everyone displayed was so interesting to see. Everyone felt like real people. The conversations that were had between Sugar Beth and Winnie, Sugar Beth and Colin, Winnie and Ryan, were layered and nuanced. This was a refreshing take on a mean-girl redemption story - it goes beyond HER story, and looks into those around her too.
With all that said, I enjoyed Sugar Beth's character thoroughly. She was a sparkling heroine full of life and spunk. Balancing that with her newly-learnt humility, determination and selflessness, Sugar Beth was a lovable character that got me rooting for her early on.
I also enjoyed seeing Winnie find herself and her inner strength. Her courage in confronting her mistakes and insecurities was beautiful. Her and Ryan's marriage in trouble plotline was relatively prominent, but I didn't think it took away from Sugar Beth and Colin's romance at all. Rather, it made the story and Sugar Beth's journey more whole.
I can definitely see why everyone loves this story and I'm so happy to say that I completely agree with the hype!

*** Book Q & A***
* How did the book make you feel?: It left me with a smile on my face, which SEP often manages to do. It was such a feel-good book.
* How do you feel about how the story was told?: It’s told mostly from Sugar’s perspective, and man, there is a lot of angst for what she endures. There is a lot of witty dialogue.
* What did you think about the main characters?: I loved Colin and Sugar. I thought the half sister Winnie was a bit unnecessarily cruel with rubbing Sugar’s disinheritance in her face. I’d feel guilty! The descriptions of Sugar’s outfits were hilarious and made me feel nostalgic.
* Which parts of the book stood out to you?: I loved the chemistry build up between the MC’s.
* What themes/tropes did you detect in the story?: enemies to lovers, hot for teacher
* What did you think about the ending?: It was wonderful and the epilogue was perfect!
* What is your impression of the author?: I keep coming back for more! I love how these stories are set in the ‘90s. It was definitely a happier, simpler, more idylic time.

Grew on me, warm and funny and pretty tender! Loved the Winnie/Ryan stuff, lovely idea!
This one was boring to me. I haven't read an SEP book that I have enjoyed either so it may be the writing style that doesn't agree with me.
Mean girl Beth Carey came back into town and boy, was everyone waiting to get their revenge on her for terrorizing them in their youth. While she is broke, she still has her grit and she is still resourceful. Coling Byrne, one of the many wronged by Sugar Beth, does his best to put down. Unfortunately, he can't resist falling under her charm.
I didn't connect with the characters nor the story. It just didn't care to follow them to redemption of the meanie. I don't know if I will read this author again.

3.5☆
I absolutely have no idea what to think of this book.
It is not a 5☆ read like I see everyone in the comments saying, but at the same time it doesn't deserves a low rating.
Ella y Sugar Beth se perdonaron way to rápido y kind of no creíble en mi opinión.
Y la boda fue tan apurada que ni se sintió la reconciliación entre Colin y Sugar Beth.
Nota para mí: Relee algunas escenas en el futuro.
