It had some good advice in it, but also a lot of advice that is just going to alienate people from their friends and loved ones.

one third anecdotal interviews about people’s experiences leaving the rat race, one third psych 101 text, one third self help. not sure what this book was trying to be. at times, the tone deaf advice-giving was so full of privilege it was laughable. but, to be fair, i didn’t go into this expecting self-help— maybe if i had, my expectations would have been met. disappointing :/

170 pages of talking about how it’s ok to ask for support and be gentle with yourself and then a whole chapter about how if you have a suicidal friend you shouldn’t be there for them if they’re not trying hard enough to not be depressed
?? like justice for ethan, seriously wtf was that. that section reinforced the “laziness lie” that price spent the whole first 170 pages arguing against. rubbed me the wrong mf way.
