I ended up liking this a lot more than I thought I would.
It is corny and predictable. It reads like a YA book, though I didn’t see anything that indicated that it belonged in that category.
I thought about abandoning it early on. But it’s a short, simple book with short chapters and I stuck it out.
Ultimately I enjoyed the sappy, unsurprising denouement.
I couldn’t give it 4 stars, though I do recommend it.

This was the last of my Christmas themed novels for 2024 and it did not disappoint. Festive heartwarming jumanji style chaos is inflicted upon a family (Henry, Ella and Will) struggling to keep it together whilst in the depths of grief over the loss of Henry’s wife Katie, and mother to Ella and Will (which we find out about on page 1). Katie has passed away five years earlier (on Christmas Day) and the family has never recovered from the loss. Christmas has been cancelled ever since and the family whilst still living together, is fractured and just existing without any real meaning. Henry is just keeping his head above water and no more.
In a desperate bid to bring back Christmas and see their father happy again, Ella and Will create a dating profile for Henry… and all hell breaks lose!
I found myself laughing out loud one minute and crying the next, particularly towards the end of the story where I lost all control of my emotions.
It’s another light read for the festive season and an enjoyable one at that!
“Our story was cut short and will remain unfinished forever. But, even in its incomplete state, it is… exquisite and perfect. And that, too, is how it will remain forever.”

Not as funny nor inclusive as I would like. Why mention a characters real (not dead) name and never refer to them as such?
I’m undecided on this story. It’s the equivalent of a Netflix movie you watch the previews for and then get sucked into watching. Then you don’t understand how or why you finished it and how you are enjoying it cause it’s cheesy af but it’s Christmas and this is who you are during the season.

The Sullivan family has lost their mother who dealt with holidays and meals. All of them are lost in their home. Their father is a professor at the university and is having problems concentrating on his classes and grading assignments. Will is running around with a gang of kids and is their look-out. Usually, he is caught in the act while the others get away. Then there is Ella who is a clean freak. Everything must be sanitized multiple times. Will and Ella know that they will not get to celebrate Christmas so decide to sign their dad up to a dating site. That is when all the trouble starts when the only person who replies is Ms. Truelove begins to send them gifts centered on the 12 days of Christmas.
Completely unbelievable nonsense with a heart of gold.
