What a lovely magical and witty take on the 12 days of Christmas, whenever I hear this carol it will remind me of this story

Spoiler alert‼️

I did not work out who was behind it until the moment it was mentioned

Henry, Will and Ella Sullivan used to be a happy family of four. But since his wife died, Henry drinks more than he should and hides his feelings from his children. Ella and Will are also growing apart, but something unites them: the wish to receive presents at Christmas again. They decide the best way for this to happen is to become a family again, and nothing says family like online dating.

I laugh easily, but it is not that easy to make me laugh out loud like this book has. My cat didn't appreciate it. The attitude of the whole family - specially Henry's - as chaos descends upon them is unbelievably funny! The story is very well written, and it is hard not to feel sorry for the Sullivans even if the situations they find themselves in are hilarious. I'll probably read this book again next Christmas, this sounds like a tradition in the making.

I would not have read this if it wasn’t a book club book, and I’m not sure I would have finished it if I didn’t feel obligated

This was a completely adequate book. There was technically nothing wrong with it. It was just there. The characters didn’t have enough story or development and the overall storyline just didn’t do it for me. The ending felt.. rushed and incomplete.

I probably could have just listened to the song the Twelve Days of Christmas and felt like that was sufficient.

Overall, this was a very blah book for me.

There are plenty of other holiday reads I would recommend if you want to feel merry.
