It's an introspective graphic novel; a nice complement to Fun Home, which looked at the author's relationship with her father, Are You My Mother examines the author's relationship with her mother. Sort of feels like a must read for anyone with a complicated relationship with a parent, specifically their mother

I really wanted to like this book and I tried but it included so many, in my opinion, unnecessary references to other authors and psychologists. It began to feel like I was reading a textbook for class. There were definitely some interesting and emotional passages that made me not give up reading it. However, I wouldn’t recommend this book to any of my friends which is not a good sign. I still might read her book about her father because I’ve heard such great things about that(and also maybe I didn’t like this book because of the order in which I read them so that’s something I’d like to find out).

Would be good if I was more interested in psychoanalysis

Bechdel is very good and I really love Dykes to Watch Out For, but I preferred that and Fun Home to this. That said, it is honest and in depth and the art is great as usual. I think there were too many themes that aren’t my jam (the psychoanalysis mostly), but I left it at a four because I think it is well done for what it is.

Bounced between things a lot which was confusing and lots of theory. Interesting look into their life

Well, I enjoyed this book from an odd angle. I enjoyed reading about the process that is therapy. Bit did become a bit technical for me though. It also makes me want to get around to reading Fun Home.
