"She wanted to drop her forehead against Sam’s chest, to cling to something, anyone that could drive out this painful throb in her stomach, this feeling of rejection or grief or whatever was crawling along her skin."

I found this to be a bit of a slog for a while, and it took me a bit of time to warm to and therefore root for the characters, particularly Sam. However, it did end up picking up a lot and I came to really care for Hayden and Sam; their slow-burn romance worked well and I enjoyed the explorations of their friendships and family relationships too (and appreciated some of the themes that went along with these).

I also HAVE to mention how much I adored Hayden's cat, Frank, and how much I loved that he played such a prominent role in the story!

This wasn't a new favourite romance for me, then, but I enjoyed it overall and it was both a cute time and a story with a decent amount of depth.

the main reason i'm subtracting points is because there's a 15 year age gap between the two main characters and age gaps that large in novels kinda creep me out a little bit. HOWEVER, this was still a really cute novel: fairly well written, a non-binary secondary character (which YES!), multiple queer characters and queer relationships outside of the main relationship.

and if tropes are your thing, look no further: fake relationship, doctor/nurse, "there's only one bed," ice queen/enemies to lovers (though enemies is a bit much? just strong dislike). and all of them are executed naturally, so it doesn't feel too cheesy.

Oh my god, I think this is my first 5 stars.

I think.... I discovered new tropes that I love now.

The chemistry in this book was ✨spectacular✨. The banter and the wittiness of it all was amazing, AND THE TENSION... THE TENSION 💕🔥

I literally loved all the characters. At least, all the characters you're supposed to love. 🤣

The plot was not the most original, but how it was executed really made up for it. I just have no words right now, this book just hit right for me.

Also, Hayden and Sam are just the perfect couple. Their scenes together, the slow burn of it all, oh my gahhhhh. I will continue to gush about them endlessly.

THIS IS A THREAT, READ THIS BOOK (but maybe not if this doesn't feel like a book you might love... please don't shit on this book for me please 😭😭😭)
