Marshall and Benedikt:
“So long as he had Marshall by his side, the two of them could face whatever was thrown their way. Together, they were already unstoppable.”

Roma and Juliette:
“Science could tell him that the ground was below his feet and the sky was above his head and the early light of day was upon his back. Roma wouldn't listen. To him, Juliette was the sun.”

I loved to read more about Marshall and Benedikt, and Juliette and Roma. Two great couples whose banter and humour never fail to amuse me.

“Don't even remind me about my traitorous back,” Marshall said. ”Twenty-three years old and I could get a cramp from breathing wrong.”

“I'm writing in everything but Russian,” he replied. “Less chance of someone stealing my notes and understanding them.”
“Yes, because I'm sure the killer will see vague remarks such as ‘is angry…’ and go on another scathing rampage.”

On a scale of enemies to lovers, Juliette and Roma definitely are on the lovey-dovey end of the spectrum. Finally free to live a life filled with love albeit in secret. When they meet a stranger in need of their help, they stumble upon something that could help Rosalind!
This leads to Marshall and Benedikt being sent on a mission where they unexpectedly get caught up in a murder mystery and try their luck as amateur sleuths.

Overall, a nice book reintroducing Juliette and Roma to bridge the gap between ‘Foul Lady Fortune’ and ‘Foul Heart Huntsman’. Excited to read the next book!

“Who are you people?”
“The wrong people to be upsetting.”

I love these characters so much! I’m so glad we got to spend some more time with them!

I love seeing these two couples get their HEA and how their separate journeys years later inevitably bring them back together to solve the issues that happened at the end of Foul Lady Fortune. I’m excited to see how these characters are brought back to help Rosalind and Orion in the next book!

The two stories were very sweet and did fill in a gap from “Foul Heart Huntsman,” but they didn’t have the same zip as Gong’s other books in  the universe. It read more as fan fiction than a canonical addition.

Was this the book version of a filler episode? Yes. Was I disappointed by this? Hell nah. Honestly I think I needed a palate cleanser after the trauma that was FLL (the ending especially). I mean,
in “A Foul Thing” you have Roma and Juliette being the badass couple (and married no less).
Then
in “This Foul Murder” you have Benedikt and Marshall trying to solve a murder so they cam carry out their mission (while being married no less).
So yeah this was great. Hope the next book doesn’t traumatize me too much :,).

Fun read if you are already familiar with the characters, but  you'll be bored if you aren't already invested in their story from These Violent Delights.

I'm not gonna lie it kinda ruins the ending of Our Violent Ends to have Roma and Juliette alive. It's not really that I'm complaining, like I love them and am happy that they lived but now it just doesn't hit the same. Anyway I thought this was a really enjoyable novella and its makes me excited to read Foul Heart Huntsman

This book contains the novellas A Foul Thing and This Foul Murder.
I strongly recommend reading it after Foul Lady Fortune and before Foul Heart Huntsman.
I strongly recommend reading These Violent Delights & Our Violent Ends before Foul Lady Fortune and Last Violent Call.

The main characters visited in these novellas were originally introduced in These Violent Delights and it was so fun to have them in the spotlight again and see how they more directly tie into the new duology.
These novellas give us a bit more background on what these characters are doing after Our Violent Ends and leading up to Foul Heart Huntsman but the story is not required for FHH, but a delightful addition none the less.
It's quite hard to say much about these books without spoiling something from Our Violent Ends, so I will just say if you enjoyed the comradery from the previous books, I suspect you will enjoy these ones too!

Fun romp for in between books.
I would describe this as if a TV show cuts to other characters for a couple scenes as the same timeline of events unfold.
was I glad I borrowed this from the library instead of buying full price, yes. I don't think this book is necessary in between unless you want the different perspective from previous characters that you might love. I haven't read the next installment yet, but for now I say it's just a short and fun side book to get you back in the world.

A lovely little filler between Foul Lady Fortune and Foul Heart Huntsman, we meet up again with Juliette and Roma after the end of the original duology and get also a peek into what Benedict and Marshall have been up to. This was a nice boost of serotonin between the heavier novels. The stories being novellas means the pacing was slightly faster, of course, but they tied well into the recent novels.
