Both stories were quick and entertaining, a good way to wait for the next instalment in the series.

I was happy to read about Roma and Juliette after Shanghai. I missed them and the ending made me hopeful for a small appearance in the next book.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from Benedikt and Marshall’s story, but I definitely didn’t see the Murder on the Orient Express vibe coming. It was nice to read about them being happy together in those little stolen moments while trying to solve the crime.

Both stories fit well into the main plot line, to the point that I wonder if someone who doesn’t read the short stories will understand everything in the last book. I’m looking forward to it even more now that everything is falling into place.

Warning: The following review will contain spoilers for These Violent Delights, Our Violent Ends, and Foul Lady Fortune
Please be sure to read this after Foul Lady Fortune as it will be relevant in Foul Heart Huntsman.
Last Violent Call follows Roma and Juliette in A Foul Thing are living in marital bliss. When they encounter a strange girl who seems to have an uncanny ability and a tie to their past, they are pulled back into the world of what is happening in Shanghai. In This Foul Murder we follow Benedikt and Marshall who are happily married and are on a mission to help Roma and Juliette when the train they are riding on has a sudden murder occur. They are pulled into the investigation as they try to make it to their destination.
I LOVE CHLOE GONG'S WRITING SO MUCH! Okay calming down now. I adore Chloe's stories and her story telling so, so much. She writes such interesting stories that pull you in from the very beginning. My favorite thing about this was seeing characters from the previous series in this and seeing them so grown up.
I loved all their relationships so much. Roma and Juliette have such a sweet relationship and I love how much they love each other. The same goes for Benedikt and Marshall. Though these are shorter stories, Chloe still manages to make us see how much they love each other. I love the overall stories but I also love the small moments where we see the characters love for each other. I adored this and I am so excited to see how these stories are going to play out in Foul Heart Huntsman.
I love this book so much and I would HIGHLY recommend picking this up after Foul Lady Fortune as it shall play into Foul Heart Huntsman. I am so excited to read more Chloe Gong in the future!

I only read A Foul Thing, so my review is only a reflection of that story. I chose not to read This Foul Murder because of the LGBT main characters and the fact that there would be more romance between them in this novella. So, if anyone wants to provide me with a summary of This Foul Murder with any important plot points that I’ll need to know before reading Foul Heart Huntsman, I’d be very appreciative!

I absolutely adored this novella. Ever since the end of Our Violent Ends, I’ve been anxiously awaiting more Roma and Juliette content. This was the perfect blend of domestic fluff + angst and a new, thrilling mystery that kept me on the edge of my seat.

As always, Chloe nailed the worldbuilding and I now want to move to this little village because THEY LIVE RIGHT ON THE WATER. LIKE HOW WONDERFUL IS THAT? 😭

Also, I love the tie-in to the end of Foul Lady Fortune because this really helps the reader have a better, more rounded sense of how this all played out from everyone’s perspective, which I loved.

Both novellas were a five star for me!! I loved them both so much. My favorite couples from the books getting their own novellas was just ✨chefs kiss✨ I’m now even more excited for Foul Heart Huntsman.

Can’t share thoughts as they’re spoilery for the other books in the series but its made me more excited for Foul Heart Huntsman and the BANTER.

TWs: murder, graphic depictions of injury, human experimentation
