The first book was a bit more enticing than this one, mostly in the giddiness sense, but I appreciated how much more in-depth this one was! We really got to see much more of Wyn and his complexities and family drama, which I was dying for in #1! I also loved reading up on Hetta’s connection to Stariel and how much more that plays into the lord’s sense than was known or let on in #1. The end of this one had me excited for the following book, which was lacking in the first. The readers, in my opinion, have a deeper connection to the characters than before, and I can’t wait to read the next book!

Solid 4.5. Am enjoying this series muchly, will continue binge reading. My 'if Neil Gaiman's Stardust and Sarah J Maas had a lovechild' comparison still holds firm. Also Stariel's landscape in my mind is effectively a magical New Zealand High Country station and that just makes my heart happy.
