Charming with its rag-tag band of characters, by turns innocent and seedy and hopeless and confident, romantic and in their own worlds. All of humanity seems to pass through the Nakano shop.
I liked the pace very much, unhurried but the story never felt like it dragged, just meandering along their lives. Wish it had been twice as long. There was a real lightness to the way we gain insight into the characters, with overlapping conversations and thoughts flitting around like real life.

Sweet and charming and fun. It's easy to fall in love with the characters when reading this book. There's a relatability to their oddness!
The writing is lovely but at times I found the plot kind of plodded along in a boring way. It was nice to read but I didn't find it exciting or interesting.
Still quite a nice read. I preferred the other book I have read by her Strange Weather in Tokyo.

One of my favorite books of all time. I love Kawakami's writing, especially the specific way in which she crafts her characters. I found her main character very relatable and realistic which I could really appreciate. A fun and interesting cast of characters who are just as unique as the story.
