2.5 Stars. I really wanted to like this one but I didn’t. And I’m not exactly sure why. Must digest.

I go back and forth on how I feel about this book. On one hand I loved that Uma was this broken girl that was able to take charge in one way, and Ivan was this tough guy who was able to give up control to Uma. It was a nice change for once, something you don't see a lot of. And because I'm not use to it, I found it a little odd. One thing is for sure, it's definitely not like anything I've ever read before.

I liked it. But it dragged on a bit for me.

I really liked this-- and agree that fans of Meghan Hart will enjoy this author. There is a lot of darkness in this book, but that is what pulled me in and made me enjoy the story. Nothing like a story about a wounded heroine and big, lumberjackesque, boxer, ex-con, blacksmith, haha. I also liked the tattoo angle I haven't read any books about tattoo removal.

I feel like the theme of this was abuse, pain, and humiliation - even after she fled her abusive boyfriend, Uma was still being verbally abused by her shut-in employer. The woman obviously had mental health issues and other than placing an ad for live-in help, no seemed inclined to help the old woman out. After Mrs. Lloyd locks Uma out of the house at night in the cold, she is forced to sleep in her freezing car which leads to the sexy, slightly unstable neighbor to take her in for the night.

Ivan, or Ive, was the best part of the entire book. I've been watching a lot of Girls lately, so Adam Driver kind of became the character for me. He's tall, intimidating, socially awkward, but is fiercely protective of those who can't fight for themselves - his battered sister, his cranky neighbor, provides self-defense training, and has adopted all the stays in town. He just seems like an incredibly sweet, far too good to be true character. And while his first instinct is to take charge and take care of Uma, he is remarkably progressive, letting her initiate sex, order him about including several blindfold scenes, which are really hot, but I kept waiting for this big, tender man to sweep her up. Instead, he becomes much more of a beta male allowing Uma to set the pace and get the guy than vice versa. To each their own, Under Her Skin was a nice change of pace and provided a bit of variety.

The next book seems to be about the sweet town doc named George, who provides the free tattoo removal. She has her own tragic backstory - Is anyone in this town happy??? I feel like a therapist would be a really good addition in this series because they all need treatment for all the suffering they've endured. It was a very good start, but I'm not overly compelled to continue on. If you have anxiety, this could be a triggering read. Uma had several panic attacks and suffered through a very horrific incident, so I had to put the book down multiple times before restarting.

P.S. The book does end at 66%...3.5 stars

Oh wow! Now i regret listening to this book just now. This book has been seating on my to be read list. But i keep put it off. This is a story of survival of young brave woman named Uma. She endured a horrific abuse from her boyfriend and she runs from him. She ends up in a small secluded town and found a nasty job with a old hag ( yes i am putting 'old hag'). Then she met her new secluded handsome brooding ex con living next door. Their first meet is very very cute but also heartbreaking.

The rest you have to read it yourself. The secondary character is so funny especially the old hag.

The minus is the description of the feeling sometimes too dragging. I also notice that the author keep adding suspence on her sentences, i found it too much.

Anyway i enjoy this book very much.

Damaged and abused, she seeks refuge in a small town and finds solace with her burly neighbour. This is a tough read because her abuse was so horrific but her determination to rebuild and heal herself is written very well, and she is really strong at her core. He may seem gruff and violent on the surface but is actually quite kind, sweet and protective.

Their chemistry is intense and their feelings feel genuine. I loved the care, patience and support he shows her, and how he gives her back her control during sex - it's hot, sensual and meaningful. He has his own aggression issues and she acts as a balm for his soul, too. The touch of suspense revolves around her ex, and he is truly shitty to the max. Tough read at times, but it's a good one.
