I quite liked this book! Not quite as good as the third, (I think?) but I love the writing style. The author does these beautiful repetition phrases and says like a theory and then a story and brings it back to this big idea that I quite like.

Fredrik Backman writes like no other. This book was just as good as the first. Emotional, challenging, heart-wrenching. The characters are deep and nuanced.

This book - much like Beartown - stole my heart. These characters, this world, these words, they touched me in a way that few books have.

Backman understands the power that a silly game can have over communities and the people that live in them. They can unite but they can also divide. You against me. Us against them.

The way each story and live is intertwined makes it feel like I could walk into Beartown tomorrow. I could drink with Ramona, watch Hed take on Beartown in the rink, and stand cheering amongst the Pack. These people are my people. This is my community. I have been transported like that in a long time.

I loved this continuation of the Beartown series. Backman does an amazing job of writing characters that feel like real people. This book and this whole series as a whole is very infuriating but it does a great job of portraying the struggles and the mindsets of a small town. Personally I didn’t think Vidar came out as strongly as the writer intended and there were a few characters I didn’t care about. But you’re not meant to love/understand everyone.
