A bit less compelling than bear town but wow did the last 30 pages make me cry.

The quote takeaway from the book:
“It’s hard to care about people. Exhausting, in fact, because empathy is a complicated thing. It requires us to accept that everyone else’s lives are also going on the whole time. We have no pause button for when everything gets too much for us to deal with, but then neither does anyone else.”

This, and Beartown are probably two of my most favourite books of all time.

There is a "in praise of" quote on the back of this book from Green Valley News that says "though you'll cry, your heart is safe in [Backman's] hands" and that is the most accurate description of what reading these books is like. However, if Benji dies in the third book (haven't read it yet), I will no longer feel like my heart was safe.

There seemed to be more typos/errors in this book than in the first, but I'm not sure why since the translator is the same for both of them...
