4.5 stars! Would've been 5 stars, but I struggled to keep up in places (which would be my very limited experience of reading spy novels). The ending was incredible, tore my heart, and tied together beautifully!

Fascinating fictional account of Russian / US spy craft. I wonder how close the story is to real field operatives. Great pairing with watching the American TV series.

What a spy story should be, driven, exciting, with characters you care about. Certainly not great literature but very enjoyable.

This was a great read, a slow burn that takes time to digest and enjoy. It is an airplane read, or a beach read, but a complex and twisty thriller which has a lot to offer the reader. I liked the inclusion of recipes at the end of each chapter. They felt like a good way to take a breath after reading the pages. I also liked the use of Russian vocabulary and mannerisms. These elements made the book feel more real and true, and less fictitious. It adds an element of atmosphere to the story.

The beginning of the book was very different from the main plot. There are parts that make the main character seem less intuitive and more like a sociopath. But, once Dominica meets Nick I really enjoyed it. And, it is interesting to read it knowing that the author is former CIA. The relationships between the American CIA officers and their Russian assets is one of the highlights of the book. I wish they would have referenced Dominica's emotional color sight into the movie-that would have been interesting to see.

spies on spies on spies. a little gratuitous with the sex (or I'm just getting square in my old age). will probably read the rest of the series.
