Overall, I really enjoyed this story. It drawns on Indian mythology in interesting ways and is full of drama, politics and action. However, I do think it struggled with some pacing issues. Sometimes I was so into what was happening I couldn't put it down. Other times I found the action a bit repetitive and had a hard time continuing. All that being said, I'm excited to read whatever Rati Mehrotra writes next.

This (audio)book ATE!! I loved the world, the characters, the banter, the action, the terrifying moments with the mythical monsters. We love a FMC who is the one teasing all of the time!

4.5. Really enjoyed it. Couldn’t put it down. Knocking off some ratings due to the main character being slightly irritating sometimes.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book, however it unfortunately wasn't for me.
I just couldn't get into the plot or the characters. In the time I was reading I did not feel like the magic or political systems were explained at all and I found myself confused. However looking at the glowing reviews on Goodreads it does appear that I'm in the minority so if you're intrigued by the summary and want to give it a go more power to you!

The premise was really great, but this should have been a duology. The world building and relationships needed to be fleshed out. As is, everything was a little flat.
